The family of murdered teacher Ann Maguire has released a statement days after her death. The 61-year-old, who was due to retire this summer, was described by her family as "shining light who brightened the world for so many.” She was also described as a “loving wife” and the “best mother.”
The 61-year-old, who had taught at Corpus Christi Catholic College in Leeds for 40 years, was stabbed multiple times in front of her students while working on her day off. A 15-year-old schoolboy has now been charged with her murder.
Mrs Maguire's family said: "This horrific happening has robbed us of all of this and so much more.”
"We are devastated. Her selfless, genuine, caring nature will remain with us eternally."
Meanwhile, Steve Mort, the school's headteacher, praised the students for handling the said incident effectively. He said:
"I'm immensely proud to be headteacher at Corpus Christi.”
"Our children have proven themselves to be great ambassadors for the school.
"I want to pay particular tribute to them and to the professionalism and dedication demonstrated by our staff at this very difficult time."
