The co-founder of the giant social network site Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg, has taken to his website to confirm its latest user figures. Now, more than 1 billion people use Facebook worldwide, Zuckerberg has confirmed.

 

Zuckerberg, who is ‘humbled’ by the stats, posted the news on his own Facebook page on Thursday. His comment read: “This morning, there are more than one billion people using Facebook actively each month,”

 

He added: “If you're reading this: thank you for giving me and my little team the honour of serving you.

 

“Helping a billion people connect is amazing, humbling and by far the thing I am most proud of in my life.

 

“I am committed to working every day to make Facebook better for you, and hopefully together one day we will be able to connect the rest of the world too.”

 

The figures means that now, around one in seven people have an active Facebook account. Zuckerberg welcomed the positive news, at a time when over £31billion has come off the site’s market value.

 

Recent share prices state that Facebook has fallen by £10 per share, from £23.50 in May to £13.50 as of the first week in October. Shares have been in decline since Facebook announced it was available to the public four months ago.

 

The site, which was launched over eight years ago, has announced that so far it has had 1.13trillion ‘Likes’, with 600million users accessing Facebook on mobile films at least once a month.

 

The firm has said that it has also had 219billion photos shared, including 140.3billion friend connections.

 

However, Facebook still faces challenges in order to move the site forwards, with reports - such as one from The Telegraph - stating that by addressing mobile phone apps and advertising the site could further progress.
