Chris Evans will replace Adrian Chiles as the host of the BBC OneÂ’s popular magazine series, 'The One Show'.
However, Evans will only present the show's Friday slot, keeping Chiles' job secure.
Evans, who took over from Terry WoganÂ’s show on BBC Radio Two recently, will present the Friday edition which will become more entertainment focussed.
The hour-long edition will be rolled out to Friday evenings with Chris Evans and Christine Bleakley starting the weekend with a “bang”.
The One Show launched in 2006 on BBC One as a four-week trial to test whether or not the format of the show would be work with audiences. It proved to be very popular with Adrian Chiles and Nadia Sawalha taking on hosting duties, prompting the BBC to commission it all year round.
Nadia Sawalha left and was replaced by Myleen Klass and then Christine Bleakley. The programme regularly tops 5 million viewers.
However, the last time Evans coupled the early starts of a five-day-a-week BBC Radio 1 show and an entertainment TV slot (Channel 4's 'TFI Friday') the result was a disaster.
After pleading with the BBC to give him Fridays off, he spectacularly resigned from his radio slot on air in 1997. Evans has since re-established himself as one of the BBC's biggest mainstream stars.
