E.T. - the best childhood film of all time

A recent survey conducted to mark the launch of Samsung Smart TV’s S Recommendation technology revealed that the movie E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial is the best-loved childhood movie. Other movies that made it to the list include Toy Story and Disney Classics Bambi and The Lion King.

Steven Spielberg was voted the UK’s favourite director. Meanwhile, the most popular film genre were action and adventure.  

The line “Frankly my dear, I don’t give a damn” from Gone with the Wind was voted as the best film quote.

As for the reasons why people watch films, 72per cent of the participants said that it was for escapism and relaxation.

E.T., which Spielberg co-produced and directed, won four Oscars; best score, best sound, best visual effects, and best sound effects. It was also nominated for Best Picture but lost to Gandhi.

Spielberg never made a sequel to ET although a follow-up script was written. The director said that making a sequel would “rob the original of its virginity.”
