Erratic star's 'self-destructive' behaviour to blame...

Warner Bros Television has fired actor Charlie Sheen from the popular US sitcom, Two and a Half Men.

The news comes after a frenzy of US media reports about Sheen's controversial personal life.

Production of the show had been suspended since the end of January after forty-five-year-old Sheen entered rehab for drug and alcohol abuse.

Warner Bros said in a statement:

"After careful consideration, Warner Bros Television has terminated Charlie Sheen's services on Two and a Half Men effective immediately."

A letter to Sheen's lawyer from the company states that Sheen "has been engaged in dangerously self-destructive conduct and appears to be very ill".

'Rambling interviews'

They added that no decision had been made of the future of the sitcom, which is the most popular series on the CBS network.

TMZ has published a statement from Sheen, reacting to the termination of his contract. He said:

"This is very good news. They continue to be in breach, like so many whales.

'Brandishing a machete'

"It is a big day of gladness at the Sober Valley Lodge because now I can take all of their bazillions, never have to put on those silly shirts for as long as this warlock exists in the terrestrial dimension."

The site is also reporting that an erratic Sheen was seen on the top of the Live Nation Headquarters in Beverly Hills, drinking from a bottle marked 'Tiger Blood' and brandishing a machete.

Sheen has given a series of rambling interviews to the media over the past few weeks, but insists he is now drug-free after his stint in rehab.

He has also taken to social networking site Twitter to express himself, gaining 1million followers in 24 hours - a record for the website.
