Following the end of his English cricket career, Kevin Pietersen has been snapped up by the Delhi Daredevils for the rock bottom rate of £880,000.
This means that the previously contracted England player will be paid about £60,000 a game.
The news was announced on IPL’s official Twitter feed on Wednesday morning. It said that Pietersen would play for the Daredevils in the 2014 season. The team agreed to pay 90million Indian rupees at the pre-season auction matching bids made by rivals Sunrisers Hyderabad.
The IPL said in a tweet: '@KP24 will play for @DelhiDaredevils who have snapped him up for Rs. 900 lacs using their right to match card against SRH. £IPLAuction.'
The Daredevils also got Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik for around £1.2million and recruited opening batsman Murali Vijay and South African JP Duminy. The most expensive player in the auction was Yuvraj Singh, who signed for Royal Challengers Bangalore for £1.4million.
Pietersen was last week left out of the England squads to tour the Caribbean and for the ICC World Twenty20 in Bangladesh.
