The European Championship semi finals spot goes to Italy but England did not go down without a fight. The quarterfinals match lasting 120 minutes ended between Italy and England with a 0-0, followed by a penalty shootout which was called upon to determine which team will advance to the semi finals stage.
The penalty shootout resulted in a 2-4 for England and Italy, leaving England to top only the Group D charts for now, instead of bringing home the Euro Cup.
Steven Gerrard, captain of the squad said, "We have done the country proud but again we go home with heartbreak and it's difficult to take."
This is not the first time England has had to exit the tournament in the quarterfinals after a penalty shootout. In years 2004 and 2006, the team had returned home with similar results. However, this year was slightly different for the England team with Roy Hodgson coaching them through. Coverage Reports say that Hodgson brought the team together and managed to make the team work together as per his instructions, bringing back the lost hope for England's team.
