It's shocks all round in Emmerdale on Sunday as Ethan (Liam OBrien) gives a final and sensational sermon to the village.

The congregation gets more than they anticipated when a distraught Ethan confesses that he is in love with Laurel (Charlotte Bellamy).

The scheming curate admits that he has been lying to the Bishop (Peter Cartwright) about Ashley (John Middleton) and Laurels relationship in order to keep them apart.

As Ethan leaves the village in shame, Ashley apologises for ever doubting Laurel and the Bishop gives his permission for the couple to marry.

All's set for a happy ending as Ashley gets down on one knee and proposes - but with Laurel still hurt that he ever distrusted her, the path to true love may still not run smooth.
