Cherries – Cherries contain anthocyanins, a powerful antioxidant that reduces inflammation and inhibits pain enzymes. Studies suggest that athletes who regularly consume tart cherry juice experience less muscle pain following training and competitions.
Blueberries – Blueberries have an increased level of compounds known as heat shock proteins in the body, which are involved in the cell’s natural response to stress. Aside from anthocyanins, they also contain tannins, which reduce swelling.
Celery seeds – Research suggests that celery seeds contain several anti-inflammatory compounds that are especially beneficial for pain caused by arthritis and gout. These seeds work by reducing inflammation and lowering uric acid levels.
Ginger – Ginger is known to aid in digestion and as an immune booster. However, research also suggests that it can also be used as an aid for pain relief. A study found that ginger extract injections helped reduce osteoarthritis pain.
Turmeric – Commonly used in Indian and Thai curry dishes, turmeric has been found to have anti-inflammatory properties. Curcumin, which is the spice’s main therapeutic ingredient, is effective in reducing painful swelling.
Cayenne pepper – This hot spice contains capsaicin, a powerful anti-inflammatory ingredients that reduces a key chemical that sends pain signals to the brain from the local nervous system.
