EastEnders' shock Christmas death

'EastEnders' fans are in for a shock when a mysterious funeral storyline is shown over the holiday season.

Viewers will see residents of Albert Square gather for an emotional funeral during the Christmas and New Year period - but TV bosses aren't revealing who dies.

Sources say it could be the end for any one of six characters in the British soap.

Pictures published in Britain's News of the World newspaper on Sunday (13.11.05) show Pauline, Jane, Sharon, Phil, Peggy and Dot gathered in a cemetery - but give no clues about who is in the coffin.

Another shot shows Sharon kneeling by the graveside after the coffin has been lowered into the ground.

An insider revealed soap bosses have made the cast swear to keep the person's identity a secret.

The source said: "Everyone has been sworn to secrecy about what happens. It could be any one of six characters who are due to leave."

"We hope we can keep it a secret until fans see it on screen."
