Dr Hilary Jones has been voted off the ITV1 show Dancing on Ice after losing out in the skate-off to actor Danny Young.

GMTV's resident GP had frequently been bottom of the judges' leader board since the season started, but remained a fan favourite, consistently being saved by the viewers' votes.

Dr Jones said he knew he would be voted off even before the judges told him. He said: "To be honest, I think my time has come this evening. The standard of the competition this year is so very, very high."

Judge Nicky Slater said his performance in the skate-off was "a really commendable effort."

However, the judging panel praised the doctor's progress. Emma Bunton said: "I think you have done wonderful things. But I don't think the competition can really start while you are still here."

Jones performed a dance routine to Steve Winwood's 'Higher Love'. Meanwhile actress Hayley Tamaddon came top of the leader board after a dazzling routine to 'Endless Love'.

She received the highest mark of the series so far, with 26.
