Downton Abbey has stolen the show by winning four big awards at 2011Â’s Emmy Awards in Los Angeles.
Dame Maggie Smith was named Best Supporting Actress in a miniseries or movie, while Julian Fellowes, writer of the hit ITV1 show was honoured with the award for Outstanding Writing in a miniseries, movie or dramatic special.
Upon receiving his award, Fellowes said:
"When we were in the hotel a bit earlier, my wife said to me, 'I think we should just relax and enjoy the evening, because I don't think we're going to win'.
"Well, we're going to enjoy the evening now."
The period drama, which returned to our screens for a second series last night, also won awards for Best Directing and the coveted Best Miniseries or Movie award.
Fellow Brit Kate Winslet was crowned Outstanding Lead Actress in a Miniseries of Movie for her role in the HBO series, Mildred Pierce.
Winslet thanked her mother in her acceptance speech, saying that she will always need the support of her family to be successful.
