Dot Cotton is set to fight against cancer in a new EastEnders plot.
The Sun has revealed that bosses do not see this as the end for the Albert Square veteran
"This will be a dramatic but carefully-treated storyline done in conjunction with cancer support groups," a soap insider told the paper.
Dot, played by June Brown, arrived in the Square in July 1985.
The tabloid reports that bosses at the show are keen to give chain-smoking fan-favourite Dot more involved in the show.
The move follows EastEnders - not even making the shortlist for the "Best Continuing Drama" award at the Baftas.
As a response The Sun reports that a series of explosive storylines were dreamed up in a "crisis meeting" this week.
