A group of researchers from Reading University said that drinking three glasses of champagne per week can minimise the risk of dementia and Alzheimer's disease.
They tested the pinot noir and pinot meunier varieties on rats and they said that "the results were dramatic."
Professor Jeremy Spencer said: "This research is exciting because it illustrates for the first time that moderate consumption of champagne has the potential to influence cognitive functioning such as memory."
However, a spokesman for the Alzheimer's Society said that "a lot more" research will be required before champagne will be considered a medicine.
