Couples’ sex lives sometimes lose its sizzle and there are several factors that have been pinpointed as reasons. But according to Dr. Cecilia Tregear, a hormone and anti-ageing specialist, there is a surefire way to bring back the passion in the bedroom: eating the right food.
“Good nutrition is essential for the healthy production of hormones that maintain the libido and allow for regular and fulfilling sexual activity,” Dr. Tregear explained.
There are some foods that can help enhance sexual performance, especially when eaten at dinnertime.
1.Asparagus
Some asparagus can really set the mood in the bedroom. This phallic vegetable is highly nutritious and, when eaten with a bit of olive oil, can be very sexy.
2.Pomegranate juice
Studies show that men and women who drank a glass of 100% pomegranate juice daily for a fortnight experienced an increase in libido levels.
3.Chilli
Chilli can stimulate blood flow, which can create feelings of arousal.
4.Liver
Liver helps prevent low iron levels, which tend to sap sexual energy.
5.Salmon
Salmon and other oily fish contains Omega-3 fats, which helps keep the blood flowing freely to the important parts that play a role during sex.
6.Red wine
Drinking small amounts of red wine prior to sex can boost dopamine levels. Dopamine is a brain chemical that plays a key role in achieving orgasms.
7.Porridge
Oats are used as a sexual tonic in some cultures. According to Chinese medicine, they contain avenacoside, a substance that keeps testosterone levels healthy.
8.Cardamom
This is a spice that can help revitalize sexual desire.
9.Beetroot
Beetroot contains high levels of nitrates that widens blood vessels and therefore improves blood flow.
