Johnny Depp has slammed fashion bosses for dragging his ex-love Kate Moss "through the mud".
The heartthrob actor is furious with fashion chiefs who ditched Kate from their ad campaigns following her drug scandal.
Several fashion giants, including Chanel and Hermes, axed the catwalk queen after pictures of her taking cocaine were published in a national newspaper.
Depp - who dated the supermodel for four years in the 1990s - is quoted in Britain's Daily Mirror newspaper as saying: "Kate should live her life how she wants to."
He added: "It was unbelievably unfair the way she was treated. She was dragged through the mud. She's not running for office, she's not looking to be the next Messiah.
"She's not out there philosophising or pretending to be a goody-two-shoes, she's a human being."
The 42-year-old also confessed he too once struggled to beat drink and drugs.
He revealed: "There was a great period of confusion when nothing made sense to me. So I indulged in hard liquor and drugs in an attempt not to feel, to self-medicate.
"But all it did was postpone the inevitable. I never, luckily, had a great problem. I never got so into a drug that I couldn't get out."
