69-year-old rock legend David Bowie has died yesterday following an 18-month month secret battle with cancer. The announcement on his official website and Facebook page said that he was surrounded by his family at the time of his passing.
A spokesman for the singer said this morning: 'David Bowie died peacefully surrounded by his family after a courageous 18-month battle with cancer.
'While many of you will share in this loss, we ask that you respect the family’s privacy during their time of grief.'
David’s longtime producer suggested that he knew for a year that his cancer was incurable and added that “his death was no different from his life – a work of art.”
The singer, who reportedly suffered six heart attacks, released a new album just last week together with a haunting video which shows him writing on a hospital bed while singing “I’m in heaven.”
Several celebrities, politicians, and even the Archbishop of Canterbury immediately paid tribute as David’s son confirmed the sad news.
It has now emerged that David was gravely ill during the recording and release of his latest album Blackstar. He was last seen in public on December 07 when he attended the premier night of a musical based on his songs, also called Lazarus.
