David Dickinson's show axed

David Dickinson's chatshow has been axed by broadcaster ITV.

The show was launched on ITV1 earlier this year and was heralded as an ecletic mix of celebrity guests, topical debates, cookery and antiques.

The format didn't connect with audiences however during the ITV's unsuccessful 3PM timeslot, prompting 'The David Dickinson Show' to be axed after just one series (10 episodes).

A source told the Sun: "Bosses thought they would try David out as a talkshow host but it didn't really work out. The feedback they got wasn't great."

The 3PM slot has been extensively used as a testing ground for chatshows with an aim to promote successful candidates to a 5PM or primetime slot to fill the void left by interview king Michael Parkinson.

ITV did find success with Alan Titchmarsh's 3PM show which built a loyal audience before being given more exposure in the 5PM slot.

Executives have previously tested Sharon Osbourne, Corrie's Anthony Cotton and Bradley Walsh. Other celebrities, including Michael Ball, are now being considered as potential hosts.

An ITV confirmed that while Dickinson's show had been cut, the channel is still "very much committed" to the personality's other show 'David Dickinson's Real Deal'.
