Famous British star David Bowie has released a new single ‘Where Are We Now?’ as he celebrates his 66th birthday on Tuesday. The song marks his first single in ten years, with a new album The Next Day set for release in March this year.
‘Where Are We Now?’, which was released on iTunes, was written by Bowie and produced by Tony Visconti. News of its release was announced on the singer’s website.
Bowie, also known as the alter ego Ziggy Stardust in the early 1970s, reportedly experienced Germany in the late 70s as he spent time in Berlin. The video for the track is expected to show the singer’s face appearing on a puppet’s body.
A spokesperson said: “Throwing shadows and avoiding the industry treadmill is very David Bowie despite his extraordinary track record that includes album sales in excess of 130million not to mention his massive contributions in the area of art, fashion, style, sexual exploration and social commentary.”
His last live performance was around six years ago. The glam-rock artist has had many hits including; ‘Space Oddity’, ‘Starman’, ‘Life on Mars?’, ‘Diamond Dogs’, ‘Under Pressure’, ‘Let’s Dance’, ‘China Girl’, ‘Dancing in the Street’, ‘Ziggy Stardust’ among many more.
The star’s first album David Bowie was released in 1967 with many more albums spanning the 70s, 80s, 90s and the noughties.
Bowie has also had a spell as an actor performing roles in films such as Labyrinth, the popular fantasy flick from 1986, and The Prestige, alongside Les Mis star Hugh Jackman and Christian Bale
