The man who killed TV presenter Jill Dando wants to take part in the next series of I'm a Celebrity.

Barry George is apparently a big fan of the show and has written to ITV bosses asking for one of the programme's T-shirts.

The fact that the 44-year-old is serving life in Whitemoor jail in Cambridgeshire seems to have escaped his attention - and he has asked to take part in the next series.

"He's living in a fantasy world - this behaviour shows just how crazy he is," a prison officer told the News of the World.

"He thinks he is a celebrity and wants to be on television. This is his way of becoming famous."

Mr George shot Ms Dando on her doorstep in west London in April 1999. An appeal against his murder conviction failed last year and he has been told he cannot appeal again until 2006.
