Cruz to stay close to ex-lover

Penelope Cruz says she will always remain close to former lover Tom Cruise.

The brunette babe, who split from her 'Vanilla Sky' co-star last January after a three-year romance, says she remains in contact with her ex-boyfriend, despite reports claiming she is set to marry new lover Matthew McMconaughey.

She said: "He's forever my friend. He's a very good person."

Meanwhile, the sexy star says she will never be a typical American actress.

The 30-year-old beauty, who was born in Madrid, claims she won't stop making films in her Spanish tongue because she doesn't want to forget her Spanish roots.

She said: "I think it's very important for me that I keep being a European actress that works here in Los Angeles too. I don't want to be anything else but what I am. I can work here and have every day less accent if I keep working on it, but I would always be a Spanish actress."
