Tom Cruise wants to marry girlfriend Katie Holmes - just four weeks after meeting her.

The Hollywood heartthrob confessed to US talk show host Oprah Winfrey he is head-over-heels in love with the former 'Dawson's Creek' beauty and is thinking about proposing.

Cruise, who is divorced from Australian actress Nicole Kidman, made the shock confession after Oprah told him that Katie once revealed to an American magazine that her dream as a young girl was to marry the 'Top Gun' star.

Tom responded: "Well I don't want to disappoint her. I'm going to discuss it with her. Honestly, I haven't had this kind of experience before."

The 'Collateral' actor - who at 42 is 15 years older than Holmes - also revealed how the pair met, saying: "I wanted to meet her so I just called her."

At the end of the interview, Cruise jumped onto the couch he was sat on to declare his love for Holmes. Then he ran backstage to where she was watching and pulled her in front of the cameras.

The pair then shared a passionate embrace much to the delight of the show's cheering audience.
