Crashed NY train was speeding

The train that crashed in New York on Sunday was going 82mph in a 30mph zone, says investigators.

The accident killed four people and injured 60 others including 11 people who are confirmed to be in critical condition. The Metro-North train from Poughkeepsie that was bound to New York City crashed about 7:20 local time, was over speeding, as confirmed by investigators. They said that on Sunday, the train was going 82mph in a 30mph zone.

Meanwhile, the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are now investigating whether the over speeding was a result of mechanical failure or human error. Also, the authorities are in the process of questioning the train’s engineer and three other crew members to get more information. They are also planning to move the locomotive to a secure facility for further examination.

Both the engineer and assistant conductor were injured in the crash.

Meanwhile, New York Senator Charles Schumer, reacted to the news saying that the speed of the train was “frightening.”

"The fact that it was going 82mph even before the curve raises so many questions, and it's scary.”

On the other hand, officials have already identified the casualties. They are 54-year-old Donna Smith, 58-year-old James Lovell, 59-year-old James Ferrari, and 35-year-old Ahn Kissok.
