Mariah Carey and her husband Nick Cannon have welcomed twins on their third wedding anniversary.

Superstar Carey gave birth to a baby girl and boy on 30 April, at an exclusive medical centre in Los Angeles.

A spokesman for the pair said that they were "overjoyed" at their new arrivals, which weighed in at 5lbs 3oz and 5lbs 6 oz respectively.

The singer's representative, Cindy Berger, confirmed the news over the weekend, telling US magazine, People:

"I spoke to both of them and they are both completely overjoyed.

"Nick was very nervous and Mariah was completely calm. Mariah thought it was another soft labour and Nick was driving her to the hospital and she very calm and the music was blasting.

"When they walked into the hospital, [Nick] was going the wrong way and the nurse redirected them to go the maternity ward."

She also revealed that Mariah was listening to her own song, We Belong Together, as she was giving birth.

The couple, who renewed their wedding vows while in hospital, are yet to reveal the names of their babies, but have hinted that they will both begin with the letter 'M'.
