Actor Ryan Thomas was arrested on suspicion of assault over the weekend, it has been reported.

Thomas, 25, was taken into police custody and held for eight hours following a furious row with ex-girlfriend Tina O'Brien, the News of the World reports.

The Cobbles heartthrob and his former girlfriend, O'Brien, 26, were allegedly arguing over their baby daughter, Scarlett.

Police were called to the house they used to share in Cheadle Heath, Manchester after neighbours heard the heated row between them.

Thomas, who plays builder Jason Grimshaw in the ITV soap, was released without charge.

He issued a statement, reading: "I would like to make it clear that I have not assaulted and would never assault Tina.

"The police were satisfied this was the case and I was released without any action being taken."

The couple met as on-screen lovers in the soap. They had a baby daughter together in 2008, but split last month, ending a six year relationship.
