Coronation Street's killer businessman Tony Gordon falls victim to a heart attack after his latest evil scheme backfires.
The lingerie factory boss keels over from a huge coronary while plotting to assassinate his ex-wife, Carla.
Tony (Gray O'Brien) fears his murderous past will be his undoing following Carla's unexpected return from Los Angeles.
Carla (Alison King) turns up after hearing that Tony is now engaged to Liam's widow, Maria. She then tries to blackmail him, threatening to spill the beans to the police unless he hands over all his Underworld shares.
Tony decides to silence Carla for good, but the building levels of stress prove too much for the Weatherfield villain.
In hospital Gordon confesses all to Roy Cropper (David Neilson).
An insider on the ITV1 soap said: "Tony does get Carla out of his life, but not in the way he intended. Then the stress of the situation proves too much and he has a heart attack on the Street.
"Luckily for him, Roy Cropper is passing and calls an ambulance. Thinking he's about to die, Tony makes an emotional confession about Liam's murder to a shocked Roy - which both men soon come to regret."
The sensational scenes take place within a 24-hour period but plays out over a full week, starting on Monday.
