It has been revealed via a study by a major biscuit business that one in six would rather have a biscuit than sex.
The study by McVitie's showed that a quarter of those polled would also prefer to give up alcohol instead of giving up their biscuits.
Despite it being the most powerful social network in the world, a third of those questioned would log off Facebook to reach for a Jaffa Cake.
The survey also unveiled that Brits typically eat two biscuits a day on average. A quarter love a biccie with their mid-morning brew while a third opt for the afternoon biscuit and cuppa combo.
The top four favourite biscuits in the UK were revealed as (from one to four): Chocolate Digestives, Hobnobs, Jaffa Cakes and Digestives.
Dr Stuart Farrimond, founder of science publication Guru Magazine analysed the tempting duo of biscuit and brew. The doctor was quoted by The Mirror as saying: “The foods we eat have profound effects on our emotions as a result of how our brains are wired. When we taste or smell a food we enjoy, neurological signals are sent directly to the pleasure centres of the brain, influencing our mood and feelings.
“Few people argue that a sweet baked snack tastes better when paired with a hot drink, but how many of us know why?
"The science shows us that hot drinks enhance the natural flavours of the biscuit because more flavour molecules are released in the mouth when the biscuit is warmed and moistened.”
