The Brit Awards saw controversy when the hotly tipped Oasis won the accolade for Album of the Last 30 Years prompting frontman Liam Gallagher to saunter through an expletive-filled acceptance speech.
After thanking all of his fellow band members aside from his brother Noel, who wrote all of the tracks on the winning '(What's the Story) Morning Glory?', Gallagher threw his microphone and award into the audience.
Host Peter Kay then returned to the stage and noted "What a ****head" before carrying on with the ceremony. Kay's remarks have become a Facebook group hit, amassing more than 50,000 followers.
Other memorable moments of the music industry awards show were Lady Gaga winning a record-equalling number of prizes at the bash on Tuesday night.
The outrageous singer won all of the awards she was nominated for, including International Album, International Breakthrough Act and International Female Solo Artist. She is only the second non-British act to win three awards in one night, after the Scissor Sisters also took home three trophies in 2005.
The 23-year-old star gave a tear-filled speech when collecting her third award. She gushed: “I was really excited to win the first two awards, but this one means even more cos I was working so hard on this album for so long and I think about all the songs that I wrote and all the years that went by and all the fighting and all the rejection.
“My fans were the first ones who believed in me. I love you so much. I am so honoured to have these awards. Thank you.”
Earlier in the evening, Gaga gave an acoustic performance on a white grand piano in honour of fashion designer Alexander
Boy band JLS, who shot to fame on TV talent show The X Factor in 2008, won two awards, including British Breakthrough Act and British Single, for their hit Beat Again.
Jay-Z, Dizzee Rascal, Kasabian and Florence and the Machine also won awards, with Robbie Williams taking home the Lifetime Contribution prize.
Lily Allen, Kasabian, Dizzee Rascal, Robbie Williams, Jay-Z, Alicia Keys, Cheryl Cole, JLS and Florence Welch performed at the event.
Courtney Love, Mika, Mel B, Geri Halliwell and Dame Shirley Bassey presented awards.
