Ten days after Justin Lee Collins’ the trial on harassment charges, the 11-strong panel returned their guilty verdict on Tuesday after a three day deliberation. The TV presenter was found guilty of harassing ex-girlfriend Anna Larke during their seven month “deeply troubled relationship” and was sentenced to 140 hours unpaid work. In addition, he was ordered to pay £3,500 in prosecution costs.
Judge John Plumstead said: “This is humbling work for somebody who lives a prominent public life but the very humility that the manual work should induce will make you pause and think about what you have done.
“You’ve had a successful career and led up to this time a decent life.
“It would have been very much to your credit if you had had the courage to admit your violence against Ms Larke and for that you will pay the price.”
After the verdict was read, reportedly a shamed Collins walked past reporters without saying anything.
It can be recalled that the TV presenter was accused of physical and emotional abuse. Based on reports, he made his ex-girlfriend leave social networking websites and forced her to face towards him when sleeping.
During the trial – according to a report by The Sun – a secret recording of him verbally abusing her was played where he called her “f****** slag”, a “dirty vile whore”, and a “f****** sex addict”.
