Close the roof! Poland vs. England match postponed due to rain

The Warsaw clash was postponed, as the turf was too wet for the kick-off...

England’s World Cup qualifier against Poland in Warsaw was postponed because the hosts and the officials did not close the roof of the stadium the night before even though there was a weather forecast that it will rain.

 

Roy Hodgson, England boss wasn’t sure if the turf was ready for yesterday’s 4pm kick-off. He said: “The pitch is in poor condition. The water is lying on the surface and it will need a lot of attention if we are going to play on it.” 

 

Meanwhile, Club England managing director Adrian Bevington said that the roof is decided on by the stadium in conjuction with the polish FA. He added: “We don’t have a say.”

 

“We asked the question on Monday whether the roof would be open or not and we were advised it would be open.”

 

Poles on the other hand have incredible excuses as to why the roof was left open. They said that the FIFA, who decides whether or not to close the roof came in late, closing the roof while it was already raining is dangerous, and the drainage in the stadium was poor. 

Former England boss Graham Taylor said: “This was Monty Python. Both sets of supporters were treated disgracefully. 

 

“If I was a fan I’d have booed.”
