Clooney not Oscar hopeful

George Clooney doesn't think he'll win any Oscars this year.

Despite having three nominations, the heartthrob actor expects to go home from next month's ceremony empty handed.

He revealed: "I don't think I'm going to win any.

"There's been a lot of 'Brokeback Mountain' stuff."

Despite having no hopes of a win, Clooney thinks his Academy Award nominations will help promote his films.

He said: "Oscar nominations are as important as anything. The hope is that people will see 'Syriana' - I don't know about wins."

In 'Syriana', Clooney plays a CIA agent assigned to assassinate the heir to the throne in an oil-rich Persian Gulf country.

The 44-year-old grew a beard and put on 35 pounds for the role.

He said: "I put the weight on so quickly I was anxious to get it off.

"The depressing thing was that I could put so much weight on in 30 days."

Meanwhile, the star recently revealed that 2005 was the worst year of his life.

Clooney said: "On my way to Morocco - where Syriana was filmed - leaving my house, there was a rattlesnake wrapped around my dog with its teeth in the back of his head.

"It was just one thing after another. My brother-in-law, who was 46 years old, stood up and had a heart attack and died."
