Warner Bros. is set to terrify moviegoers once again as it puts together the prequel to the classic horror movie ‘The Shining’. 

 

The original Stanley Kubrick movie, which was released in 1980, told the story of Jack Torrance, a writer who uproots his family to take a job as a caretaker at an isolated hotel. The creepy surroundings made Torrance, played by Jack Nicholson, lose his mind. In the climax, he was seen trying to kill his own family. 

 

The story was based on the book by Stephen King, who later admitted he wasn’t a fan of the film. He thinks too much of the supernatural elements of the story were not presented in the film. He also was not a fan of the casting, saying that the deterioration of Nicholson’s mental state in the film was not surprising enough for the viewers after having seen Nicholson play a mental patient in his previous film, 'One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest'. 

 

Director Martin Scorsese, however, is quite a fan, calling 'The Shining' one of the scariest films of all time. 

 

As of now, there are no details regarding the plot of the prequel, but according to speculations, it will focus on the dark and creepy supernatural backstory of The Overlook Hotel. 

 

The prequel will be written by screenwriter Laeta Kalogridis of 'Shutter Island' fame. She will be joined by Bradley Fischer and James Vanderbilt, who previously worked together on 'The Amazing Spider-Man' to craft a new direction. 

 

King, on the other hand, has just finished a sequel to 'The Shining'. The new novel, called 'Dr. Sleep', focuses on Jack’s son Danny, who is now a grown up.
