A leading online financial service provider has recommended that consumers review their personal finance this Christmas in order to avoid getting into debt.

Nick White, head of personal finance at uSwitch, the impartial financial comparison service, also recommends that consumers should have a good look around the market in order to find the best deal for them, before committing to any financial service.

Mr White said: "[uSwitch recommends] that consumers do not succumb to the first credit card or loan offer they receive, as this may not be the most appropriate for them.

"Instead we advise them to conduct thorough research into the products available, having created a list of their specific criteria."

Mr White also suggests using a financial comparison website, which can help cut through the wide variety of financial products that are currently available, finding the best product for each individual enquiry.

"One way to make the process easier is to use a facility such as an online comparison site which enables you to compare all the products on offer and to make a really informed choice as to the credit card best suited to your individual needs," he said.
