Chris Moyles leaves his breakfast show after 8 long years

What they say is true: some good things never last. After 8 long years, Chris Moyles is saying goodbye to his longest running breakfast show for BBC Radio1. It was confirmed that he will be replaced by Nick Grimshaw, 10 years his junior, starting on September 24.

 

The DJ didn’t explain the reason for leaving but it is believed that it’s about the ratings. The show attracted 7.9 million listeners in 2010. However, listenership continued to drop due to what critics say, Moyles inability to attract younger listeners. 

 

Chris told his fans: "Thanks for supporting us and, with the risk of sounding ridiculously cheesy, for making all our dreams come true." The always-controversial DJ ended his show by playing a “goodbye song” written by his team. The song talked about the show’s history: "We've had a lot of fun, we moaned when we were tired, and every single month we came close to being fired".

 

Some of the stars who left a farewell message included Coldplay frontman Chris Martin. He said:  "Just to say from us, well done and congratulations on running the breakfast show so well, for so long. I know you're going to do great, whatever you decide to do."

 

The other personalities who helped the DJ wrap his show are TV chef Jamie Oliver, Gary Barlow, James Corden, and Davina McCall. There was also a live audience of more than 200 fans.
