Lady Gaga and Justin Timberlake are among a host of stars quitting Facebook and Twitter for charity.
Celebrities will sign off on 1 December, World Aids Day, and will come back online when they have raised £1million.
The campaign, Digital Life Sacrifice, will raise money for Keep a Child Alive which supports families affected by HIV and AIDS in India and Africa.
Singer Alicia Keys, who has organised the mass sign-off, said it was "really important and super-cool to use the mediums that we naturally are on.
"It's so important to shock you to the point of waking up.
"It's not that people don't care or it's not that people don't want to do something, it's that they never thought of it quite like that."
Other celebrities included in the campaign are Elijah Wood, Jennifer Hudson, P Diddy, Serena Williams, Kim and Khloe Kardashian and Ryan Seacrest.
Twenty-nine-year-old Keys continued: "This is such a direct and instantly emotional way and a little sarcastic, you know, of a way to get people to pay attention."
Stars have recorded last tweet and testament videos, which show them appearing in coffins to signify their digital 'death.'
