If you ever wonder if you can get enough Vitamin D as the sun peeks through your window, the answer is no.
The body produces Vitamin D when UVB rays hit the skin. As most glass windows block this wavelength, “sunbathing” through a window will not help you reap health benefits. But this can still expose you to harmful rays that can cause freckles as UVA rays are not filtered by ordinary glass.
Dr. Anthony Mancini, the head of pediatric dermatology at Children’s Memorial Hospital in Chicago, said that people who are exposed to sunlight through windows, such as when they’re inside the car, should use protection against skin cancer.
