British-born Elliot Rodger made several disturbing videos before he killed six people in a gun and knife rampage prior to taking his own life in Santa Barbara last week.
Now, it has been revealed that despite warnings about the videos being posted online, the local Sheriff’s deputies and police did not watch them.
Last month, four deputies and a police officer were sent to the Rodger’s apartment after they were informed via a mental health hotline that Rodger’s mother and a therapist were concerned about the videos.
Rodger was questioned for 10 minutes where he said that he had trouble fitting in socially. He added that he made the videos to express himself. Police officers described him as shy, timid, and polite.
Prior to Friday’s rampage, Rodger reposted some of the videos. He also left several written manifestos and online videos explaining his motives.
Meanwhile, Rodger’s parents released a statement saying that they were ‘crying out in pain for the victims and their families.’ It added: "It breaks our hearts on a level that we didn't think possible."
