It seems that more and more big names in different industries are being targeted by hackers. After reports confirmed a sophisticated hacking operation targeting Facebook last week, news that Burger King’s Twitter account was hacked came out.
The company’s Twitter feed included McDonald’s and some rappers’ promotions. Other tweets showed a link of unsanitary working conditions in an unidentifiable kitchen and another of man injecting himself with syringe.
The hacking took place on President’s Day in the US when presumably some Burger King public relations workers were off duty. It lasted for about an hour before Burger King’s Twitter account was suspended.
McDonald’s immediately released a statement saying they did not have anything to do with the hacking.
Burger King on the other hand, confirmed that they suspended the account.
They said: "It has come to our attention that the Twitter account of the Burger King brand has been hacked. We have worked directly with administrators to suspend the account until we are able to re-establish our legitimate site and authentic postings.
"We apologise to our fans and followers who have been receiving erroneous tweets about other members of our industry and additional inappropriate topics."
