The presenter Stuart Hall has been charged with rape and 14 offences of indecent assault, police have confirmed.
The 83-year-old, who is from Cheshire, was arrested on Tuesday after he attended an appointment with police.
The alleged rape incident is thought to have taken place in the mid-1970s, with many of the indecent assault cases allegedly taking place over a period of nearly 20 years as of the late 1960s.
Based on reports, the cases of indecent assault are thought to have involved girls who were under the age of 17.
A statement from Lancashire Police read: “Following consultation with the Crown Prosecution Service an 83-year-old man has this evening been charged with one offence of rape and 14 offences of indecent assault.”
Mr. Hall, the former It’s A Knockout presenter, who was in court last week, had previously pleaded not guilty to three indecent assault charges at Preston Magistrates Court.
The commentator, who also hosted the popular show Question of Sport, was bailed and expected to appear at Preston Magistrates Court early in February.
Mr. Hall worked on BBC Radio 5 Live up until recently as he was known for his football commentaries.
