Speculation Britney Spears is pregnant with twins is growing as the pop princess tightens up her finances.

A source close to Spears claims the prospect of facing twice the financial burden has made the pregnant pop star clamp down on her husband Kevin Federline's extravagant spending habits.

The source revealed to America's New York Daily News newspaper: "Kevin's on a leash. He's been spending too much, flaunting his new American Express black card. She told him, 'We have bills to pay, this stuff adds up.' He's got a bigger entourage than the guy on HBO! They all go golfing every morning."

Britney's publicist, Leslie Sloane Zelnick, denied any knowledge of the rumoured double birth, she said: "If she's having twins, I have not been told that yet."

The source also alleged 27-year-old Kevin still isn't paying any child support to the mother of his two children, actress Shar Jackson, whom he abandoned for Britney last year.

Sloane Zelnick said: "Ninety percent of that is untrue. He does pay child support. Britney and Kevin made $5million with that UPN show, and there's a whole international back end. Kevin was on the tour to take the video, so I know he got paid."

But the source insisted: "He spends money like it's water, has no job to speak of, and I think Britney's starting to wake up and realize it."
