British Olympic team vows to 'learn from' England's World Cup disaster

Olympic officials see the silver lining after England bows out of the World Cup; they will learn important lessons that could help them in Rio in 2016

After the national team's crushing exit from Brazil's World Cup 2014 last week, it has emerged that the British Olympic Association now plans to speak to Roy Hodgson’s support staff to understand what went wrong and learn important lessons that they can use to succeed at the 2016 Rio Olympics. 

 

Mark England, chef de mission (ambassador) of the British team for Rio, said while he was in Belo Horizonte: "It's something I've not been inside, I know one or two of the people that they had there, and I would have them in our team tomorrow.

 

"We are going to talk to them about the lessons that they have learned here.

 

"I think that is important. Key people Dave Reddin and Michelle Farrah, on the operation side, will have a debrief with them on all of the logistics.

 

"In particular in Rio de Janeiro itself and how the city operates in major event mode, and we'll take the lessons that they have learned and put them to good use for the British team."
