Britain braces for heavy snow and cold conditions

More snow and wintery showers set to hit UK in the coming days; The Met Office issues a yellow weather warning.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning with forecasters predicting heavy snowfall across the country in the coming days. England’s North, Scotland, and Northern Ireland are expected to experience more snow and wintry showers on Wednesday and Thursday. Forecasters added that low-lying areas could expect up to 5cm of snow and 10cm in higher ground.
 
The Met Office has already issued warning about travel disruption.
 
Sky News Weather Producer Rebecca Yussuf said: "Widespread sharp overnight frosts will return from Wednesday onwards, with Scotland, Northern Ireland and northern England seeing frequent, heavy snow showers.

"Accumulating snow is likely, especially overnight, with two to five centimetres at low levels and in excess of 10 centimetres over the highest ground."

The Met Office said "an active cold front is expected to push south-east across the UK during Wednesday introducing an increasingly cold and unstable air mass".

On January 18, the coldest temperature was recorded at -11.2C. This beats previous record low of -9C, which took place on December 27 in Scotland.
