It's been seven years but finally Bridget JonesÂ’ Diary is to be opened again, with the third film in the series.
A sequel to the films starring Renee Zellweger as hopeless Bridget has been rumoured to be in the works since 2009.
Now, magazine Entertainment Weekly claims to have confirmed the news, with an article on its website saying:
"EW has confirmed exclusively that Working Title Films, the production company responsible for the first movie released in 2001 and the second one dubbed The Edge of Reason in 2004, is moving ahead with a third instalment."
It goes on to say that no firm plot details are available, but the publication does quote co-star Colin Firth as telling Access Hollywood:
"I can tell you that Bridget and Mark canÂ’t have children, I think that's the way it goes on.
"So then she makes the huge mistake of going back to Daniel Cleaver [Hugh Grant's character] for long enough to get pregnant.
"And I think he dumps her, and sheÂ’s left stranded, and guess who comes back to rescue her?"
The first two films, based on Helen Fielding's novels of the same name, combined made nearly $550million internationally.
