A breakthrough treatment called twin attack therapy has produced “staggering” and “mind boggling” results after it completely wiped out breast cancer in patients in just 11 days. Medics said that it is the fastest ever response to a treatment.
In a world first, seven British women with breast cancer were placed under a treatment that combines two cancer drugs before surgery. Their breast cancer tumours vanished in less than two weeks after they were diagnosed with the disease. Another 11 British patients also saw their tumours shrink to leave only “minimal residual disease.”
Experts said that the treatment could spare thousands of women from chemotherapy.
The findings were presented at the European Breast Cancer Conference in Amsterdam.
Breast cancer doctor Prof David Cameron who helped lead the trials, said they still don’t know for sure why the two drugs worked so well together.
