Russell Brand has reportedly confirmed that he and singer Katy Perry are to marry.

The comic told The Sun's Bizarre Editor Gordon Smart via text that he is engaged the 'I Kissed a Girl' singer, saying: "It's true. Much love."

Brand is rumoured to have popped the question during a spiritual ceremony in India on New Year's Eve after having their relationship blessed by a "love guru".

The Sun reported that the couple wore traditional Indian clothes and were granted luck and divine happiness in a tent at the foot of a Jaipur mountain just before midnight on New Year's Eve, following which Brand surprised his lover with a ring as 2010 began.

Brand had previously been spotted shopping for an engagement ring at a London jewellers.

The pair met less than four months ago, but Brand has become notorious for his brief and frequent relationships with numerous women. In response to his changing reputation, the star was quoted as saying: "Katy's managed to tame me. This is it - I'm completely in love."
