Bradley Wiggins sent to hospital after being hit by car

Famous cyclist Bradley Wiggins collided with a car on Wednesday and stayed overnight in hospital

London 2012 Olympic gold medallist Bradley Wiggins, aged 32, was taken to hospital on Wednesdaywhere he stayed overnight after being involved in a crash with a car. The hero was out training on his bicycle near Chorley, Lancashire, when he was hit by the car.

 

The incident took place at 6pm, and police have said the driver was a woman, and the car that hit Wiggins was a white Vauxhall Astra. It is understood the Tour de France winner collided with the vehicle as it pulled out of a petrol station.

 

Based on reports, Wiggins suffered rib and wrist injuries with his team, Team Sky, saying: “The injuries he has sustained are not thought to be serious and he is expected to make a full and speedy recovery.”

 

Lancashire police have issued a statement that read: “Police were called to the scene of a road traffic collision at around 6pm. That was a cyclist who had been involved in a collision with a white Vauxhall Astra car.

 

“The rider of the bike, who we are saying is a 32-year-old local man, was taken to hospital with injuries. Those injuries are not life threatening. The driver of the car, who was a local woman, did not receive any injuries, and is assisting officers with our inquiries.”

 

It is thought the incident will have no long lasting effects on Wiggins’ sporting career, and that he may be sent home from hospital only a day after the crash on Thursday.

 

Wiggins is known to cycle around many rural areas close to his home, using the routes as part of his training.

 

Wiggins, who has had a successful year, was recently in the news for having his famous sideburns removed, and his autobiography is expected to be published on Thursday this week.
