Sir Bradley Wiggins has announced that he will not participate in this summer’s Tour de France and that he may have to leave Team Sky.
Speaking to L’Equipe, he said that he had been contemplating quitting since April.
"I think I can tell you that as things stand I will not be riding in the Tour.”
"After Paris-Roubaix and the Tour of California, I felt good physically, I was ready to go [to the Tour]. But these last few weeks, it has become more and more clear that unless something happens to Froome at the Dauphine, I will not be at the Tour. There we go."
Wiggins also confirmed that he spoke with Team Sky leader Sir Dave Brailsford who suggested that he focus on preparing for the Commonwealth Games this summer.
"Yes, because all season I have tried to prepare myself for it. It's disappointing because it could have been my last Tour de France. The option they [Team Sky] gave me was to return to the track, to focus on the Commonwealth Games at the end of July."
