Bourne again?

Matt Damon has hinted that he may be set to reprise his role as amnesiac super-spy Jason Bourne.

Oscar winner and unlikely action man Matt Damon has hinted that he may be set to reprise his role as amnesiac super-spy Jason Bourne, according to Singapore newspaper the Straits Times.

The eponymous star of the first two Bourne films, 'Identity' and 'Supremacy' respectively, Damon told the Singapore paper that providing the script was adequate for the already in pre-production Bourne Ultimatum, he would once again play the former assassin.

"It depends on the script," he said. "If it's interesting, I'll do it. If not, I'll just bag it."

The first Bourne film, The Bourne Identity, was a gritty, thinking man's spy thriller, bringing a much welcome edge of realism to a genre dominated by the increasingly far fetched James Bond franchise establishing Damon's leading man status in the process.

Based on the spy novels of Robert Ludlum, the second Bourne instalment is currently doing the rounds at box offices across the globe, having taken some $165 million in Northern American theatres alone since its opening weekend, a figure which is sure to go on and exceed the first film's takings total of $210 million.

However, studio executives may still have to go some way to convince the discerning 33 year old star whose next outing will be in the star studded Ocean's Twelve if they are to stay with the same leading man.

"Sequels generally kind of suck," Damon told the Straits Times from Spain, where he was promoting the movie. "I didn't want to add my name to the list of offenders who've made bad sequels."
