Dzhokhar Tsarnaev,who is allegedly one individual suspected of the blasts which went off at the Boston Marathon last Monday, 15thApril, has been charged.
The 19-year-old suspect is charged with using a weapon of mass destruction the American Department of Justice said, reports have confirmed. He has been receiving treatment for injuries at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.
This could mean a long spell in prison or even the death penalty for Dzhokhar Tsarnaev if he is found guilty of the allegation against him.
Although it is believed the suspect won’t be treat as an ‘enemy combatant’. A spokesperson for the White House is quoted in some reports confirming this.
According to reports, the teen will go under the criminal justice system of America.
This comes one week on from the tragic bombing in Boston. A period of silence has taken place to remember those affected by the Boston Marathon bombing.
The suspect was taken in by police following a huge search operation. Officers ended up in Watertown, which is outside of Boston, where Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was found hiding.
Tamerlan Tsarnaev died following a shooting incident on Friday, 19th April, where one officer was killed a result of the gunfire.
The bombs, which went off at the finish line of the marathon event in Boston, Massachusetts, tragically killed three victims and injured at least 180 people.
