Boyband Blue have been announced as the act that will represent the UK in this yearÂ’s Eurovision Song Contest.
The band will perform a self-penned song at the annual competition which will be held this May in Dusseldorf, Germany.
Band member Duncan James spoke about the decision, saying:
“We're celebrating our 10 years together in 2011, so when the BBC approached us it seemed a great way to mark the occasion and also to be part of something which is still a British institution.”
Simon Webbe added:

“I've always wanted to represent my country, so this is a truly exciting experience for Blue.”
Best known for their Top Ten hits All Rise, Guilty and duet with Elton John, Sorry Seems to be the Hardest Word, Blue originally formed in 2001.
Since going their separate ways in 2005, each of the band members had some solo success before reforming last April.
Head of Entertainment and Events at the BBC, Katie Taylor, commented:
“We're enormously pleased to have found an act that not only meets but exceeds all the criteria for a great entry.
“Blue are the perfect choice and we're so proud to have them representing us at this year's Eurovision Song Contest."
